Investigate the electromagnetic properties and device applications of electromagnetic periodic structures, such as frequency selective surfaces (FSS), electromagnetic bandgap (EBG), photonic crystals, left-handed materials, and other electromagnetic meta-materials. 2. Investigate the light extraction of light emitting and display devices, light trapping of solar cell devices, and device design of integrated optics. 3. Improve electromagnetic compatibility and interference by periodic and resonant structures, such as electromagnetic bandgap (EBG) and photonic crystal structures. 4. Develop and improve computer-aided design tools for electromagnetic simulation
