Photonics is one of the important divisions in the Department of Electrical Engineering. Now that photonics industry has become a trillion-dollar industry in Taiwan, the courses of photonics are relevant to the students in the departments or institutes of engineering.
There are several basic courses of photonics for undergraduate students in the Department of Electrical Engineering, National Taiwan University. They are Electro-magnetics, Modern Physics, Introduction to Electro-Optics, etc. The course of Photonics Experiments is correlated to those courses and targeted for further understanding and practicing of photonics technologies.
The Photonics Laboratory was funded by the donation from ChiMei Optoelectronics. It was established in Rm. 425 of EE II Bldg. in February 2006 and was moved to Rm. 402 of EE I Bldg. in September 2007. There are three categories of experiments in this laboratory now. Besides the traditional experiments of laser optics, those based on the semiconductor optics and display optics are included in order to introduce the recent and most popular topics in photonics to the undergraduate students. Those will be helpful for their future studies or careers.
Introduction of Photonics Experiments
The objective of this course is to introduce the basic physical parameters, the methods and the instruments of measurement in Photonics. The experiments in this course can be categorized as laser optics, semiconductor optics and display optics.
